Nigeria Textile Market Potential

22/04/2024

Nigeria is a key African market, accounting for almost half of West Africa’s population, and the country boasts one of the largest youth populations in the world. The country also has an abundance of natural resources, with vast oil and gas reserves, and significant agricultural potential. Nigeria is a member of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) since 1971.

About 90 percent of textile products in Nigeria valued at over $4 billion are imported into the country annually, National Union of Textile Garment and Tailoring Workers of Nigeria (NUTGTWN) has stated.

Available data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) shows consistent rise in textile imports from 2020 when it was N182.5 billion, N278.8 billion in 2021, N365.5 billion in 2022, and N377.1 billion in 2023. Nigerias Textile and Garment Import Trade Data Value shows that China occupies the first place of textile and garment imports in Nigeria by countrywide.
